Where the Baja peninsula finally runs out, a last ridge of sculpted granite wades into the sea — Land's End — and bores through itself in the arch Mexicans call simply El Arco. The setting earns the postcards: sea lions lounge honking on the lower rocks, frigatebirds ride the updrafts, Divorce Beach takes the Pacific's violence on one side while Lover's Beach cups Sea-of-Cortez calm on the other, and the water shifts turquoise to indigo where the two seas trade currents.
The fleet offers every speed. Pangas and glass-bottom boats leave the marina constantly for 45-60-minute loops — the budget classic — idling at the sea-lion rocks and the Arch, and (conditions permitting) landing passengers at Lover's Beach for an hour or two of swim-and-scramble between the two shores (swim only the Cortez side; the Pacific side's undertow is deadly serious). Catamarans scale it up: morning snorkel sails to Pelican Rock and Santa Maria's reefs, afternoon party runs, and the flagship sunset cruises — open bar, Arch silhouettes, and in whale season the exhale-plumes and breaches of humpbacks and grays commuting the capes (roughly December through April, when dedicated whale-watch departures also run).
Choose by temperament: pangas for cheap, close, and flexible (negotiate at the marina or book ahead); snorkel cats for families; sunset sails for couples and celebrations. Mornings bring the calmest seas and clearest water; reef-safe sunscreen and marina cash smooth everything. However you float it, it's the one Los Cabos outing nobody skips — the peninsula's exclamation point, best read from the water.
What to Expect
Format
Water-only access from the Cabo San Lucas marina: quick glass-bottom/panga loops (optional Lover's Beach drop-off), snorkel catamarans, and open-bar sunset sails — with whale watching folded in during winter season.
Best Time
Calm mornings for pangas, snorkeling, and beach landings; golden hour for the sunset cats. December-April adds whales to everything.
Duration
45-90 minutes for Arch loops; 2-3 hours for snorkel or sunset cruises.
Tips
Mornings = flat water and open Lover's Beach landings. Swim ONLY the Cortez side there — the Pacific side is lethal. Agree panga prices before boarding (or book ahead). Reef-safe sunscreen; cash for the marina. Sunset sails book out in high season — reserve. Whale season needs no extra luck.

Can you walk to El Arco?
No — Land's End is boat-only. Pangas, glass-bottom boats, and catamarans leave the Cabo San Lucas marina continuously; even Lover's Beach is a water landing.
Is Lover's Beach safe to swim?
On its Sea of Cortez side, yes, in calm conditions. The Pacific side ("Divorce Beach") has violent surf and undertow — strictly no swimming, as posted. Landings are skipped in swell.
When are the whales?
Roughly December through April, when humpbacks and gray whales fill the capes — Arch cruises double as whale watches, and dedicated departures get closer under regulation.
Panga or catamaran?
Pangas: quick, cheap, nimble, best for the photo loop and beach drop. Catamarans: time, comfort, snorkeling, bars, sunsets. Many visitors do one of each.
Sunset or morning?
Both honestly: morning for clear water, calm seas, and the beach; sunset for the golden Arch and the toast. If forced — first-timers morning, romantics sunset.
